Does my indoor pet need preventives?

Internal parasites like heartworms, whipworms, roundworms, tapeworms and hookworms can cause infections inside your pet’s vital organs. For example, heartworms can make a home out of your pet’s heart, lungs and blood vessels, causing long lasting damage. External parasites like fleas, ticks and mites can transmit diseases like Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain-spotted fever as well as cause skin infections.

Are parasite infections contagious?

Some parasite infections can be passed onto pet parents and other loved ones because they’re zoonotic. If you notice any of the following symptoms in your pet, taking them in for a checkup could also mean safeguarding yourself against a potential infection. Some signs of a parasite infection include:
