Parasites target your pet, creating a range of health issues that can negatively impact their quality of life. Deworming removes any internal parasites currently occupying your pet, so we can treat any issues caused by the potential infection. If you suspect your pet has worms, we’ll recommend a deworming medication that works best for them.
What are the signs my pet needs deworming?
Worms are fairly common in pets. Depending on the parasite, there are different symptoms of infections. Some pets may not show any symptoms until they have a high worm count. Some signs that your furry friend could need a dewormer include:
- Swollen or enlarged belly
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Losing weight
- Scratching their bum
- Seeing worms in their poop
What kinds of deworming medications are available?
There are a range of dewormers on the market, which we recommend based on whichever worm has started a residency in your pet. The best way for us to confirm if your pet has an infection is with the help of a fecal exam. Common intestinal worms we detect in our tests include roundworms, tapeworms and hookworms. Once we’ve diagnosed them, we can prescribe a dewormer that will most effectively kill the parasites, without harming your pet. Most medications are given orally to target the parasites living in their digestive system. If you’re interested in getting your pet dewormed, please contact us at 905-983-9010.
